Investors Most Interested in Smart Building Innovation

Investors are always looking for the next big thing. Across the globe, landlords and property managers are in a rush to retrofit and upgrade their assets ahead of increasing climate regulations and rising electricity prices. Most are turning towards smart building technology in some way, layering technology into building systems to streamline operations and enhance functionality. 30% of investors in the PropTech sector are interested in smart buildings, more than any other sector, according to Metaprop.

That means businesses and services offering smart building technology are expected to continue their rapid growth trajectory. The smart building market is expected to register a CAGR of more than 23% over the forecast period between 2020 and 2025. Smart buildings are being juiced by the Internet of Things, working its way into every nook and cranny of the real estate sector. Across the globe, new buildings are being constructed with both wireless and wired IoT infrastructure.

As governments take steps towards sustainability and energy efficiency, more and more regulations and initiatives will be implemented. Some owners may see that as a burden, others will see it as an opportunity for smart buildings. As technology and conservation become more prominent, demand for smart buildings will increase. Investors are counting on it.
