Greenprint Properties On Track To Meet 2030 Carbon Reductions Goal

Ten years ago the Urban Land Institute began to study sustainability efforts in real estate by formulating its Greenprint Performance Report. The stated mission was to lead the global real estate community toward carbon-reduction strategies to ensure emissions decline over time. How effective has that mission been?

As the chart shows, efforts are on track to meet the goal of 50% reduction by 2030. Since the program started, Greenprint properties have reduced their energy use intensity by 17%. With ambitious new climate goals being passed in major cities around the globe, like New York City’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, carbon reductions efforts are accelerating.

Things won’t stop there. A noted shift in the type of sustainability projects being undertaken, focused on more capital intensive improvements like installing building automation systems and making significant changes to a buildings core or shell, means that more impact is on the way. Continued advancements in sustainability projects will help keep Greenprint projects on track, leading the way to a green future.
