Prescriptive Data Wins REBNY 2020 PropTech Challenge Building Operations, Sustainability, & Wellness Award

Leading Real Estate Organization Recognizes Prescriptive Data’s Nantum Smart Building Operating System in the Fight Against COVID-19

NEW YORK, NY, November 17, 2020 – Prescriptive Data, a Manhattan-based PropTech developer of smart building operating system Nantum OS, took home the top prize in the “Building Operations, Sustainability and Wellness” category during The Real Estate Board of New York’s (REBNY) annual PropTech Challenge.

The challenge, which took place on November 16-17th in partnership with Connected Real Estate Magazine’s virtual event,  was divided into four categories with a focus on helping owners and managers get tenants back into commercial buildings safely and securely. Prescriptive Data was recognized during the challenge for developing several new technologies, programs, and research to help the commercial real estate industry in the fight against COVID-19.

“At Prescriptive Data, we take great pride in our ability to develop innovative solutions that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, streamline renewable energy purchasing, and keep our tenants safe and healthy,” said Prescriptive Data CEO Sonu Panda. “We are grateful to REBNY for recognizing our work on Nantum, which has provided landlords, health officials, and local leaders with crucial real-time information during this time of need.”

Prescriptive Data customer Jonathan Bauer, who serves as Sustainability Manager at Washington, D.C.-based The Tower Companies, explained that Nantum is like having another engineer in the building who is reading 25,000 data points and making adjustments automatically while triggering preventive warnings. “It makes us better at our jobs by helping us work more efficiently—and that is a value add that is hard to quantify in a simple payback calculation,” he said.

Nantum OS extracts and consolidates live data from building systems, external data providers, and from third-party Internet of Things (IoT) solutions into a secure cloud environment called the Nantum Cloud. Using this real-time data, the system employs machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to optimize real-time operational efficiency, enhance tenant comfort, reduce utilities costs and energy usage, improving building net-operating profits (NOI) thereby increasing the underlying value of real estate assets.

In March 2020, Nantum tracked real-time occupancy, energy monitoring, and carbon emissions from its 10 million square-foot sample set, combined with data from the New York City Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, to illustrate the impact Governor Cuomo’s Stay-at-Home orders had on the city’s office building landscape.

Prescriptive Data developed a brand new mobile tenant app powered by Nantum, allowing tenants to receive building notifications, access the building via their mobile device, and view elevator wait times. The firm also launched a new building greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions app designed to help building owner/managers comply with Local Law 97, also known as the New York City Climate Mobilization Act.

The PropTech Challenge Award is the fourth major honor that has been bestowed upon Prescriptive Data this year. The Association of Energy Engineers’ (AEE) 2020 International Awards Program, which recognizes important work that is being done in the energy industry by individuals, organizations, agencies, and corporations, recently announced that Rudin Management Company captured the award for “Corporate Energy Management” by using Nantum OS.

In addition to being honored by the energy and engineering community, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) selected Prescriptive Data as one of four finalists in its Proving Ground program to promote energy efficiency within the GSA’s national real estate portfolio. KPMG also recently selected Nantum to be deployed as part of its new patent-pending blockchain capability, Climate Accounting Infrastructure (CAI).

Other categories in the 2020 PropTech Challenge included Design, Construction and Development and Commercial Leasing & Brokerage. For more information, visit the event website at https://www.proptechchallenge.com/
