John Gilbert III Recognized With Connected RE Lifetime Achievement Award

May 9, 2023, New York, NY  –  Connected Real Estate Magazine has honored John Gilbert, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman at Prescriptive Data, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for decades of vision, impact, and inspiration to others within the commercial real estate industry.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Gilbert at the Connect(X) event held in New Orleans this week, honors individuals who had a major impact on the real estate technology industry throughout their career.  With a career spanning over 30 years, John's dedication to his work has helped steward some of New York City’s most iconic buildings. As a co-founder of Prescriptive Data, Gilbert continues to use his immense expertise and business acumen to connect built environments while optimizing energy efficiency and tenant comfort. 

Gilbert was previously COO/EVP/CTO of Rudin Management Company (RMC), the largest privately owned real estate company in NYC. John has been involved in every major project the company has developed over the last 25 years including: the redevelopment and creation of the world’s first smart building at 55 Broad Street (1995-1996), the development of the Reuters Building at 3 Times Square (1998-2001),  the redevelopment of the former ATT Long Lines Building at 32 Avenue of the Americas (1999-2002),  the redevelopment of 130 West 12th Street (2010-2011),  the development of The Greenwich Lane (2006-2016), and Dock 72, a ground-up 675,000-foot office building located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a joint venture with WeWork and Boston Properties.

Gilbert’s illustrious career in commercial real estate has garnered him several awards and formal recognition from institutions like The Real Estate Board of New York and leading industry publications. For John, the recognition isn’t as important as the mission. 

In 2009 Gilbert asked himself why buildings don’t have an operating system as his iPhone does, so he set out to build one. Transitioning from an established career with one of New York’s preeminent property companies into a role leading a startup had many colleagues scratching their heads, but Gilbert always believed in the mission. Today the product Gilbert helped create has evolved into Nantum OS, now helping to optimize and decarbonize for customers like JP Morgan Chase and Boston Properties. 

Outside of Rudin, Gilbert has held several positions in city government and local civic organizations. He has served as President of the Rent Stabilization Association; worked as Assistant Commissioner of Housing Policy for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD); served as Mayor Edward Koch’s representative on the New York City Board of Estimate; and was Chief Housing Aide to former Assembly Speaker Stanley Fink. He was also appointed by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani to the Board of Directors of the New York City Public/Private Initiatives.

John's remarkable achievements, leadership, and dedication to his profession and community make him a deserving recipient of this Lifetime Achievement Award. We congratulate John on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his invaluable contributions to the industry.
