Top 10 Cities in 2035 According to GDP

The fight against climate change will take effort from everyone across the globe. The world’s largest cities will need to step up to the plate to offset the massive amount of emissions originating from their factories, buildings, cars, and citizens. The good news is that each of the world’s estimated top 10 cities by 2035 will have plenty of money to invest in green initiatives.

China and the United States will lead the way. By 2035, Oxford Economics estimates that 7 of the world’s 10 largest cities will be in either China or the United States. By 2035, New York City will have an estimated annual GDP of roughly $2.5 trillion, anchored by the lucrative banking industry and financial institutions that call the Big Apple home. New York City already has a plan in place to put its money to work, pledging to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. The cost of the necessary changes is estimated at some $4 billion.

Smart building owners and managers will look to recoup that massive bill with energy savings and the added value of an energy-efficient building. Many landlords aren’t waiting: Investing in green initiatives for their buildings now, while they’re still affordable and the fines aren’t serious.
