U.S.A's Smartest Cities 2019 Index Score

Curtailing climate issues will be a major challenge for cities across the globe in the twenty first century. As cities continue to grow, the burden they put on our shared environment will grow too. Civic leaders and local officials are busy implementing smart changes to ensure a sustainable future, but some are making more progress than others. A recent index of smart cities from the EasyPark Group shows New York City has some catching up to do.

Boston leads the United States with an overall score of 7.07, earning high marks across the board. Washington D.C. and Los Angeles scored second and third, with New York City coming in fourth. Scores were based on various categories like transport, sustainability, and innovation. The United States may be behind other global cities, but America scores better than most in the smart building category. All American cities scored a 9.02 in the category, higher than every nation except Germany, which registered a perfect 10.

American buildings have adopted innovative technology to increase energy efficiency and sustainability. Thanks to the help of certifications programs like the Green Building Council’s Leadership In Energy And Environmental Design (LEED) rating and PACE funding, building owners and managers have an incentive to adopt high-efficiency mechanical equipment, building management system and building envelope improvements. With a continued focus on smart, future-oriented decisions, American cities will lead the way in decades to come.
