NANTUM AI
STEAM DEMAND MANAGER
What Are Steam Peak Demand Charges?
If a building uses district steam for heating, chances are it’s suffering from higher-than-expected charges during peak demand times and unpredictable utility bills.
Shifting demand to off-peak times can save buildings thousands of dollars in monthly steam costs.
For example: Every morning during the winter in New York City, in the Con Edison Steam District, steam peak demand charges increase by ~10x.

Pre-Heat Steam Automation
With Nantum's Pre-Heat Steam Optimization algorithm, building operators can load shift steam usage to off-peak hours.
Peak demand periods can be avoided by pre-heating water with steam earlier in the day when steam demand cost is much lower, enabling thermal energy storage.
Nantum’s AI uses localized weather conditions to predict and recommend the optimal pre-heat start time and temperature setpoint to maximize steam savings to avoid on-peak pricing.
Without Nantum, time or temperature setpoints can be suboptimal, leading to too early or too late of a heating time, inadequate heating to make it through the peak demand period, or too much pre-heating and wasted energy.
The Day Before…
Nantum’s Building Cockpit displays recommendations for tomorrow’s thermal storage time and temperature.
After midnight, the thermal storage recommendations are displayed in the timeline widget.
Every Morning…
The Nantum AI Morning Schedule email recommends the optimal steam operations for the day to minimize steam demand during peak hours, without sacrificing internal comfort.
In the email, Nantum AI recommends steam pre-heat time.
Nantum AI also recommends steam pre-heat temperature.
