GSA’s Proving Ground Selects Three Next-Generation Technologies for Evaluation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Proving Ground program (GPG) has selected the following innovative building technologies for testing in GSA facilities.
Connected Building Operating System – This technology, provided by Prescriptive Data, modifies the operation of heating and cooling systems, and provides energy efficiency recommendations to building operators in real-time. Modifications and recommendations are based on the evaluation of a variety of factors including occupancy levels, weather conditions, and electricity consumption.
Catalyst-Based Scale Prevention for Cooling Towers – This technology, provided by NaturalSof, is designed to alter the chemistry of hard water to prevent calcite buildup. Following a successful 2015 evaluation in a domestic electric water heater at the Frank E. Moss Federal Courthouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, GSA will test the technology’s efficacy in a chilled water plant cooling tower.
DC Microgrid Study – This technology is designed to connect on-site energy generation and storage devices to direct current loads, eliminating conversion losses and optimizing the efficiency of on-site power. The study will evaluate the microgrid’s impact on resiliency, operations and maintenance, and electricity savings. It will also assess the technology’s ability to shift power consumption during periods of demand response and identify and drop non-critical loads during periods of peak demand.
